Volunteer Vacancies – Kids Cafe Thursdays After School

From September we will be running an after school Kids Cafe at Simple Things Cafe in Gretton Road, Winchcombe.

The cafe will be open between 3.30pm-5pm for all in School Years 4-6 and will offer a reading corner, craft activity, games and lego corner as well as drinks and snacks.

We are looking for volunteers to help support this new venture.  If you have some spare time between 3-5.30pm on Thursdays, like working with children and can work to support the WAM Youth Vision and Mission (see our website for details) then we would love to hear from you!  Please email us on for a role description and application form. We welcome applications from young volunteers who wish to gain voluntary experience for DofE awards, CVs and similar!

WAM 30 for 30 logo

This year you can help us achieve one of our specific goals:

It costs us £35 to mentor 1 young person per week. We are asking for 30 people to commit to supporting us with a monthly donation of £30 for 1 year. This will provide us with enough basic income to run our mentoring programme for 6 young people for one year. We can then supplement this income with specific grants and events.

  • In January 2014 we had 2 mentors and 2 mentees
  • In January 2015 this rose to 7 mentors and 13 mentees and we started training another 8 mentors
  • By January 2016 we’re aiming to be providing 25 mentors to 25 young people in need

Could you help us by being one of our 30for30?

Mentors Needed

We will be starting our next round of mentor training in early 2015 and we are always looking for new mentors to join us! We work with all kinds of young people aged between 10 and 18 and so we need all kinds of mentors! There isn’t one type of person we’re looking for. No experience is necessary (although it is valued!) and full training will be given. What matters to us is that you care about the young people in our community and are able to commit to the training and twelve month programme.  Please also note that as part of our recruitment process all our mentors will need to complete an enhanced DBS check.

So get in touch if you want to find out more! It’s a great way to make a difference and the experience will probably change you as much as it changes your mentee!
